The Tower Group is one of the largest industrial groups in Nigeria, with primary operations in the aluminium and steel industries. The group is comprised of numerous companies, all involved in different aspects of the aluminium and steel industries, such that the full range of activities in the production of pipes, sheets, and consumer products are integrated into the Tower scope. Group company activities include rolling mills, galvanizing plants, extrusion, packaging, production of cookware, composite building products, and many more.
All of these industries add up to a very significant power demand, and the sheer scale of the Tower Group further magnifies the requirement for energy. Together with Powergas International, a joint venture called Tower Power Utilities Ltd was created. The first TPUL project was to design and build (on a turnkey basis, including procurement) a captive IPP in Otta, Ogun State. This gas powered station produces close to 10 MWe of electric power, supplying to two Tower Group companies: Aluminium Rolling Mills and Kolorkote. The IPP will also be expanded from its initial captive operation, and will supply export power to neighboring factories.
TPUL is also engaged in the development of further IPP stations, larger than the pilot project. These will be placed in Otta and Abeokuta, and will have capacities in the region of 20-30 MWe.
Shortly after commencement of project work, TPUL was made responsible for the Tower Group’s energy requirements. Given the magnitude of this demand, the role is quite significant, and has been granted in acknowledgment of Powergas International’s outstanding capabilities in delivering total energy solutions; the responsibility for TPUL operations rests with us. These operations do extend beyond the Tower Group, however, and TPUL is also positioned to export and distribute electric power to any interested party in proximity to our IPP stations. To find out more, you can contact Powergas International, and we will route your enquiry accordingly.
