INEC To Conduct Fresh Recruitment Exercise
INEC says it has com menced the process of recruiting permanent staff for the conduct of the 2011 general elections.
Mr Kayode Idowu, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega, said this in a telephone interview with newsmen at the weekend.
Idowu said the need to recruit more people in the commission became necessary to meet the personnel requirement for the 2011 general elections.
He said that INEC was undergoing the process of ensuring compliance with the 2007 Public Procurement Act by seeking to appoint reputable firms of management consultants to carry out the general recruitment exercise.
“Though I cannot give the exact number, but those to be recruited will be added to 360,000 adhoc staff also to be recruited for 2011 elections,” he said.
He added that the commission was looking at areas where more people would be needed and to balance it with departments with redundancy complaints.
Idowu said the commission would adopt online application method for the recruitment process, adding that “it will be made public soon.”
INEC had advertised a request for proposal from management consultants to conduct the recruitment exercise.
The management consultants to be appointed would be expected to compile the list of applicants as well as screen and shortlist names of successful ones.
They are also to conduct an aptitude test for the short listed candidates in the geo political zones, conduct oral interviews and submit final result to the commission.
Idowu said INEC staff who had just concluded the voter registration training programme in Abuja would be deployed across the country to train others.
