POSITION: FARM PROJECT SUPERVISOR

Job Description:

  • The Farm Project Supervisor’s primary responsibility will be planning the farm development for maximum yield, organising farm administration, working machinery, and organising associated activities.
  • The Farm Project Supervisor will be responsible for managing key relationships.
  • The Farm Project Supervisor will also be responsible for supervising harvest and organising/overseeing the transportation of farm produce to the market.


Responsibilities:


  • Direct and coordinate activities, such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, grading, and recordkeeping
  • Identify crop varieties with commercial potential and justify adoption
  • Manage relationships with community leaders, farm workers, and other relevant service providers.
  • Planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters
  • Liaise with farmers on management of crop production
  • Ensuring that the farm is profitable and meets projected financial targets
  • Analysing market conditions to determine acreage allocations
  • Arranging the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment
  • Maintaining and monitoring the quality of crop yield
  • Provide guidance and expert advice to management on technical, systems, or process-related topics
  • Maintaining knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them
  • Record information, such as production, farm management practices, and preparing financial and operational reports
  • Analyse soil to determine type and quantity of fertilizer required for maximum production
  • Supervise the harvest of produce while ensuring minimum wastage of farm produce
  • Organise the transportation of produce to the farm
  • Applying health and safety standards across the farm
  • Prepare annual farm plan, goals and objectives
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned

Requirements:

  • OND, HND, or BSc in agriculture related field
  • 2-5 years of work experience, with at least 2 years of experience developing and executing agricultural projects
  • Ability and willingness to travel long distance to market with farm produce
  • Ability and willingness to relocate
  • Ability and willingness to live and work in a rural community
  • Experience in commercial farming management will be preferable
  • Farm management including irrigation management will be preferable
  • Demonstrated aptitude for effective leadership of staff
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
