  • Warri Graduates Stops Chevron job interview

WARRI- HUNDREDS of Itsekiri graduates, yesterday, morning stormed the Chevron Recreation Club, Warri, Delta State, venue of an on-going job placement interview and disrupted the exercise, alleging that no Itsekiri graduate from any of the numerous host communities was invited for the exercise.

The students, under the aegis of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, from Itsekiri host communities, stormed the venue of the interview as early as 8:15am, protesting that they were not being employed by the oil company

Vanguard learnt that problem started when a Chevron contractor, SMAFS Nigeria Ltd, working at the Escravos Gas Project (EGP3) awarded a Scaffolding, Engineering, Technical, Logistics and Safety job, started its mobilization to site.

Leaders of the protesting graduates, Mr. Mayomi Okimi, told Vanguard , that the company was playing pranks with them and warned them not to mobilize to site until the host communities were considered for employment.

He also said that with the large number of unemployed Itsekiri graduates roaming the street, it was criminal for any companies to venture into their area to commence any type of job without their knowledge and people constituting the bulk of the worker force, as there are countless Itsekiri graduates in all fields of study.

Yes don't blame the Itesekeri. They are the one suffering the effect of crude oil exploration. They should be given slots at any job recruitment since this is only way they can be consoled over the destruction of their lands. Let's have empathy for our Niger Delta Brothers.

I dont think the operations of chevron is affecting the Shekes. Their lands are exploited not them. And I heard from a reliable source that they were compensated for the land. How long will they continue to feel superior to others becos their land was taken over 7 years ago They are the ones been unfair to me. If they have the what the company is looking for and they apply I don't think think they will be turned down.

The only way I'll support their action is if the Itsekiris that wrote their test in Lagos, Abuja and PH, where evicted from those test centers and sent to their precious land.

So they wrote tests in other peoples land and don't want people to write tests in thier land.
